The Town of Fowler began in 1816 and named for Theodosius Fowler (1753 -1841) a local landowner and a captain in the American Revolution.

Fowler is located in southwest St. Lawrence County and borders the towns of Rossie, Gouverneur, Hermon, Edwards, Pitcairn, and Antwerp.

The Oswegatchie River's main and west branches flow through Fowler with scenic portages.

The town is a beautiful setting for the Gouverneur Country Club and is home to Sylvia Lake and its community.

St. Lawrence County includes the St. Lawrence River and the Adirondack Mountains in Northern New York.

The area is rich in history and features abundant outdoor recreation. The county has a tradition of agriculture and a reputation for excellence in education.

Town of Fowler wins $500,000 grant


Fowler has been awarded a second Community Development Block Grant from the federal government.


There are 14 recipients already approved for housing rehabilitation work with a previous grant. The two grants total $900,000. There are specific parameters that must be met to qualify for funds and there is a waiting list.
